In this story God was angry with the way his people were acting. He thought Noah was living life in a Godly way, so he commanded him to build an arc for him, his family, and two of every animal. When all of them were in the arc, God brought a flood upon the land that lasted 40 days and 40 nights. On the arc, Noah let out a dove and it returned with an olive branch. Later, Noah let the dove out again and it didn't return at all, so Noah knew it was time. He unloaded his arc and all the animals and they saw a rainbow. The rainbow is God's promise never to cause a disaster on the world again.
The world will end in fire. Something will throw the Earth into orbit towards the sun and it will burn. If it goes into the opposite direction of the sun it will probably encounter another sun to burn into. It just seems more likely to me that the Earth can go up in flames, due to our close proximity to the sun.
